Flower arranging dates back to ancient Egyptian times. Today we use flowers to celebrate life’s joyous occasions; birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and births. We convey messages through flowers for a speedy recovery and get well wishes. Our deepest sentiments of sympathy are expressed to those who have lost loved ones. God’s creation of fragrant blooms and vivid colors, have an amazing impact on a person’s emotions. Studies at Rutgers University show flowers improve emotional health. The presence of flowers triggers happy emotions. They heighten feelings of life satisfaction, and affect social behavior in a positive manner far beyond what is normally believed. A flower’s presence is warm and inviting, and soothes the soul. For such a tiny masterpiece that’s a big job!

There are many ways to enrich your life with flowers. Start by, waking up with them! Place a small bud vase on your bedside table filled with a single Hydrangea or a Gerbera Daisy. The Hydrangea’s fluffy and plentiful petals have a more dramatic effect than many flowers, and what other flower looks as happy as the Gerbera Daisy? The instant uplift will have you ready to take on the day.

Place a floral arrangement in your home at the entrance that your guests will use. Fresh flowers make a great statement, but permanent botanicals can look very realistic if you choose a higher quality floral stem. If you’re having a party, you may choose to give it as a door prize. Small touches throughout your home will make each room more inviting. A tiny pave’ near the vanity in the restroom and, most importantly, at the dinner table. If you cannot attend a party, send flowers. The hostess will appreciate the gesture and it will add to the party décor.

Start a friendly game of tag with your mate. Send flowers and request the card message to read: “Tag, you’re it!” Make your own rules, and list them if you wish. ‘Just because’ flowers are becoming more and more popular. It’s a fact that 83% of people like to receive flowers when they are unexpected. To make it even more personal, describe the recipient’s favorite colors or hobbies when placing your order.

Flowers in the workplace are sure to help spark creative and new ideas. Fresh flowers provide a fragrance without the flame of a candle, which can be dangerous when left burning unattended in an office. Many professionals choose to send flowers to welcome a new client, and to thank a friend for a referral. They make a fabulous closing gift from a realtor. Whatever your profession may be, there are times when flowers are simply the best gift. Though fresh blooms won’t last forever, they do have a lasting impression. The recipient will remember this thoughtful gift long after the flowers have perished.

In the fast paced world that we live in today, we need to take a moment to “stop and smell the flowers”. Getting lost in a beautiful, fragrant bloom can rejuvenate your mind. Like a hairdresser, everyone should have his or her own florist. So, next time you want to make someone smile, even if it is yourself, call your local florist.
